This piece was the first of my portfolio titled A Novice’s Journey. I started this right after completing The Egg when I was on a roll with the monochrome marker concept. I knew immediately I had wanted to work on a larger scale than I had ever done before. I also knew I had wanted to do a more fantastical concept, with large trees and mountains.

Right from the beginning the process was difficult and something I had to take time to get used to. This was the start of my “journey” as I was the “novice” that had just started learning a new medium. The whimsical feel of the piece also fed into the title of the portfolio. I think the elements I am most happy with are the animals throughout the foreground as well as the mountains in the back.
